Chiropractic FAQs

What can I expect from my first appointment?

Seeing our chiropractor for the first time is much like visiting a medical doctor’s office for the first time. You’ll be asked to complete a heath history questionnaire and answer a few other questions about the reason for your visit. You will then have a consultation with the doctor where you can address your goals for your treatment and have any questions answered. Once in the exam room, our chiropractor will take a thorough physical examination, focusing on your chief complaints, but also looking at you as the whole person you are because you do not heal one part at a time, but rather as a whole human entity.

Should I do something special to prepare for my appointment?

No special preparation is needed. For your own comfort, avoid eating a large meal before your appointment and wear loose, comfortable clothing. It may be helpful to bring an updated calendar so you can schedule future appointments at the office.

Why do I need x-rays?

Diagnostic testing isn’t always necessary, but sometimes x-rays and other diagnostic tests are needed in order for our chiropractor to develop a safe and effective treatment plan. Tests for range of motion, muscle strength, reflexes and other orthopedic or neurological tests may also be required.

What is a typical treatment plan like?

Your treatment plan will be based on your unique needs. For people with severe or long-term chronic problems our doctor might suggest a range of services to include chiropractic adjustments, Graston Technique, the use of orthotics or massage therapy. For patients experiencing mild discomfort or those seeking chiropractic care as part of their overall wellness plan, chiropractic adjustments alone may be enough.

How often do I need to visit the chiropractor?

Frequency of visits depends on many factors, including the type and severity of your injury, the level of your pain and the specific treatment techniques our chiropractor suggests. Patients with long-term chronic pain often make one or two appointments a week to begin with and cut down to one or two visits a month as their condition improves.

What are the risks associated with chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is a non-invasive, drug-free treatment that’s safe for everyone, including children, pregnant women and seniors. There are some situations that contraindicate a manual spinal adjustment such as a history of certain types of stroke or spinal disorders. But manual adjustments are only one technique used in chiropractic care. At Remier Wellness Center we offer a variety of safe and effective services suitable for every person.

Are spinal adjustments painful?

Chiropractic care is not painful. Our doctors are trained in many different techniques and can provide care gentle enough for a baby. Some methods might cause slight discomfort, especially in chronic cases where muscles and other soft tissues have become extremely tight and inflexible. However, nothing our chiropractor does should actually cause pain. Be sure to inform the doctor immediately if you’re feeling pain with treatment.

When can I expect results?

You can expect a decrease in pain after the first visit. Many patients report feeling energized, sleeping better and a sense of increased mental clarity with only one visit to our office.
